Hull 1069 is the third in series of Ferries built by MHI for P&O to be equipped with PSM gauging for the ballast and fuel oil tanks. In this case the PSM system has been extended, with the addition of a Multi-Minder used as an independent back-up display for the KEI ballast control system. This ensures compliance with Marine society regulations which require two independent means of measuring tank content. The functional requirements of the ship meant that it was impractical to consider sounding pipes for a majority of the tanks, and so they have been equipped with two PSM 260 Series transmitters for each. The signals from these transmitters are entirely independent of each other, one is fed into the central KEI system and the second goes either to a Multi-Minder for all ballast tanks, or additional PSM manufactured panels for all fuel oil tanks. These oil display panels contain a PSM single channel Minder for each tank which in turn provides a signal retransmission to two further PSM display panels housing analogue dial indicators and located at the tank fill control points. |
